Two scientific Centres of Excellence are complemented by the Centre of Public Relations and Exhibition. These three main pillars of the institute are supported by the administration, the library, the Biohistoricum, a graphic artist, the conservators, and other technical assistants (IT, animal keepers, carpentry and other workshops, etc.). The employees' interests are attended to by the employment equity committee.
At Museum Koenig, there are 61 authorized posts (including 14 scientific staff and additional 12 in cooperation with the University of Bonn) plus about 130 additional staff (about 15 scientists in externally funded projects, 100 diploma, PhD and federal exam students, 15 volunteers). Since 1989 the director's position is tied to the professorship for Systematic Zoology at the University of Bonn, as well as the head of the Centre of Molecular Biodiversity Research.
